In Memoriam

"a giant on trumpet as in life,
has left us, but his inspiration lives on -
..high C’ees forever....!"

 Cees van den Heuvel

 13-1-1944    30-7-2009

On July 30. 2009 our trumpet player and entertainer passed away after a relatively short sickbed. During a concert in The Hague on May 17. 2009 his illness forced him to break off a concert, which was the last time we played together. Cees joined the Revival Jassband in 1978 when Ray Kaart left the band to return to the Dutch Swing College Band. He was member of the band during a period of 31 years! Cees was not
the middle of the road trumpet player and vocalist who did his job to everyone’s satisfaction.
As a teacher of Dutch literature he also was an inspired entertainer. His hilarious presentation made him very unique but gave the Revival Jassband a lot of extra glow among the many bands operating in the Dutch Dixieland scene. Most of all, Cees had his own unique Louis
Amstrong like trumpet style. Blessed with a natural embouchure Cees explored the high register, not squeeking but playing with full body, which gave him the nick name “high Cees”. He will live on in our memory and in the many audio and video recordings we made.
